If your cat is turning up her nose at the $200 cat tree you hauled home from Costco, perhaps she has more expensive tastes. May I recommend Tabbi, the almost-human scratching post?
Created by Etsy seller Cat-in-the-Box Creations, Tabbi is a life-size mannequin designed not only to appeal to your lust for high-design home decor but also for your kitty’s scratching pleasure.
This designer scratching post is covered with heavy-duty sisal rope, which cats love to sharpen their claws on, and sprayed with Eau du Catnip before shipping. Completing Tabbi’s ensemble is a crown of cat-safe fake grass designed to resemble hair. Made to order, Tabbi has the hefty price tag of $1,485. The current model is sold out, but more are on the way.
If the full-size Tabbi is a bit too large for your living space, Cat-in-the-Box Creations also offers two other models. Tabbi No. 2 ($295) is a tabletop bust that stands about 30″ tall and features removable feathers, flowers and butterflies, as well as a bra that either you or Tabbi can wear.
Tabbi No. 3 ($985) resembles the Venus de Milo: no head, arms or legs, just a full-size torso with a heart-shaped tramp stamp on her backside. According to the Etsy seller, Tabby No. 4 is on its way.
The Tabbi line was made to last. Most sisal-wrapped cat posts and trees begin to fall apart just a few months after your kitty begins attacking it. These high-end models use non-toxic high-heated glue, which the seller guarantees will keep the sisal from coming apart from the mannequin base.
High-end pet furniture is a newly discovered market, usually one that caters to dogs. As pet owners invest more money in their four-legged babies’ happiness, we’ll probably see more interesting designer pet items for sale. Personally, I’d like a vacuum couch that automatically sucks up dog hair—or a self-cleaning litter box that actually works!
