Question: Help! My neutered cat gets sexually excited after surgery. I have noticed that when Leo, (18 months old) is rubbing on one of his favorite pillows or throw rugs (he seems to have a real fabric affection), purring, he’ll have this tiny kitten stiffie that looks like the tip of a pink Crayola crayon. This happens a couple of times a week. I have always had pets and have never had another neutered cat sporting wood after surgery. Is Leo just an especially studly cat?

Wow. Usually random humping is only a problem for dogs and men.

After much searching I found an entire forum devoted to post-surgical cat stiffies.

Apparently these neutered cat issues are more common than anyone would have thought. There are two reasons: Your cat may be trying to assert dominance over something. If he is in a multicat household and is low in the social order, then cat humping may be his attempt at gaining some social standing. There isn’t much to be done for a humping kitty than to visit an animal behaviorist.

The other answer, and the more likely one, may be that when your kitten was neutered, the vet, for whatever reason, missed some material. There are hormone tests that can identify and correct neutering problems like this.
