It would be advisable to consult your veterinarian before applying any sort of flea medication on your kitten.

Fleas can make the life of your kitten miserable, and an infestation could also lead to skin infections if left untreated. How to treat fleas on kittens, and what are the various treatment options available for fleas found in your kitten?

  • Shampoos and dips

Most kittens that get infected with fleas do so because a flea-infected mother fed the kittens. So if you want to help your kitty get rid of fleas, you would also need to treat the mother cat simultaneously.

Kittens are very delicate, and a wrong medication could be dangerous. Most of the products available for flea control are too strong to be used on kittens. If the age of your kitten is younger than 6 months, it would be advisable to refrain from using chemicals. Instead, wash the kitten in warm detergent water. The detergent will help kill most of the fleas, and the few that are still left can be picked using a comb.

If the kitten is older than 6 months, ask your vet about flea medicine for kittens. It is extremely important to consult the veterinarian before you administer any pet medication.

Getting rid of fleas from young kittens can be a tricky proposition. Your vet will be able to provide proper treatment procedures to be followed for treating the mother cat. Again, don’t forget that flea meds for kittens must be combined with a regimen for the adult nursing cat for the flea treatment to be successful.
