Apart from feeding and walking your dog, it is crucial that you perform grooming at regular intervals to keep your pup healthy. As part of the grooming kit, you would require brushes, combs, nail trimmers, shears, a pet trimmer or clipper set, shampoo and conditioner.

How to choose a clipper kit to trim dog hair? There are numerous models to choose from, depending on your budget. But it would be best if you don’t opt for a cheap model, as it will cause harm to your puppy during the trimming process.

Use clippers that are specifically designed for this purpose. So what are the points to remember while buying the canine grooming tools such as this?

How to Choose a Clipper Kit

  • “My dog is scared of clippers”: If you find yourself saying this, you need to rethink your kit. If the clippers make a lot of noise while trimming the pet hair, they might be among the causes of canine anxiety. Clippers for dogs should be of good quality, lightweight and relatively quiet.
  • Battery-operated and standard electric pet trimmers are normally used for the purpose of trimming the hair. The battery-operated is lighter than the standard version.
  • A good quality kit will have several blade options, and the manufacturer provides interchangeable blades along with the kit.
  • Most good models will have at least two speeds that you can switch between while trimming the dog’s hair.
  • Keep this in mind: The higher the RPM, the cleaner the cut.

Compare the features of the kits on offer, and choose from the market leaders. Brand names are a safe bet. Depending on the size and breed of your dog, there are specific models available; do take the care to select the ideal one for your pet.

If your dog is long haired, it would be better if you trim the fur at regular intervals to avoid it getting entangled. After you wrap up the trimming process, you’re going to need a great canine shampoo and conditioner, which will help in gently washing and shining the coat. (We said gently washing… not THIS.)

Professional pet groomers might very well cost big bucks, but that’s OK, because the much cheaper do-it-yourself ethic works just fine here. Dogs normally love the entire DIY grooming procedure, and are often quite cheerful as you go about the business at hand. Now that you know how to choose a clipper kit to trim dog’s hair, happy shopping and happy grooming.

I agree that loud clippers can scare your pet as our Jack Russell doesn’t like loud clippers. He also has wire hair terrier in him as well, and the clippers we have tried tend to take a long time to cut through his hair. We have found that cutting his hair with scissors first and then with clippers work best. This whole procedure takes way too long, and my husband and I decided to take him to our local groomer. They charge us $20 to cut his hair and clip his nails. It’s a great deal and saves us a lot of time.
