UPDATE: The contest has now ended, and the judges have decided. Here is the list of winners.
We are delighted to announce the 25 finalists for the Pets Adviser & DogTime Media Halloween 2011 Pets Photo Contest! Our original plan was to pick 20 finalists, but we received so many outstanding entries that we decided to up the list to 25. If your photo didn’t make the cut, don’t feel too bad — the competition was tough!
Readers voted using the Facebook “Like” button to select the Best Cat and Best Dog photo winners. The voting period is now over. Winners will be announced soon. Meanwhile, the Pets Adviser panel of judges is deliberating to determine a Grand Prize winner. We’ll also select 10 Honorable Mentions.
The Finalists
- Bella is 1 year old. She is 1/2 border collie and 1/2 black Labrador retriever. She was adopted at 10 weeks old from Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter in Hanover, N.J. She is the sweetest little girl, loves to play with her toys and thinks she is human. She was a little scared of the trick-or-treaters in their costumes!
- Says this pup’s owner: “Lilly is a natural! She loves to take her photo when treats are involved.”
- Barnabe is a 5-year-old rescued Staffordshire bull terrier. As you can see by the expression on his face, he loves to dress up as Dogzilla and cause havoc on the streets of Japan!
- This is Devon Valentine, a 10 month dalmatian puppy. It was his first time in a costume. He’s such a clown on a regular basis, we had to give him a clown costume.
- This is Miss Sable Grace, a hairless Chinese crested, dressed up as a pink witch for her first Halloween.
- Handsome one-eyed boy Buck makes a naturally awesome pirate for Halloween.
- Chaucer and Molly get ready for some Halloween fun as “Hairy” Potter! Chaucer actually walked around the house for about half an hour with the glasses on, and likes to wear them during his dinner.
- Mandy May McEntyre was a hippie for Halloween. Mandy May is a 14-year-old red longhaired dachshund princess.
- Boomer, a catahoula, and Cricket, a Lab mix are both rescue dogs. And obviously good sports!
- Simba is a puppy pomapoo pumpkin. Her brother, Magic (a 7-year-old black cat), has not quite adopted Simba yet. So Simba cuddles here with a toy substitute.
- Sir Pounce-A-Lot is a 6-month-old-kitten who will gladly do tricks for treats. Pouncie is with a non-profit rescue group, and he is so excited to find a home of his own.
- Rocket is a 6-month-old border collie. His mom can’t imagine any of her other dogs tolerating this. First there was the martini, then the appletini and now there is the Rocketini.
- Darci and Nelly are dressed as Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice from the royal wedding, wearing handmade suits and hats.
- Millie the Exterminator is giving Billy the Exterminator (of the A&E reality TV show) a run for his money.
- Fonzie, 7, is masquerading as Brutus Buckeye, Ohio State mascot. Fonzie gets his name from the “Happy Days” character, and his personality is not much different from that of the real Fonz. Aaaaaaayyyyy!
- Nimrod, 4 years old, is dressed as a sock monkey. Her mom says Nimrod bounces around like a little monkey. The costume was made by hand (no sewing machine).
- This is Lucky Benner, who was rescued at about 10 days old. She is a sweet and lovable calico to those that she knows and trusts. Although Lucky has arthritis and diabetes, she is at the door to greet her mom every day.
- Lola (the brindle boxer at right) and her cousin Ridley are great dogs, and were great sports for Halloween… They’re graaaaape!
- Zoey was born in a junkyard and was rescued at around 8 months. She now lives in the lap of luxury, eating premium kibble, getting lots of attention and sleeping on the bed with her mama. But she’s never forgotten her roots, so today she’s dressed as Robin Hood, who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. You might say she’s standing up for the 99 percent!
- Jonah, 2, as the Yellow Submarine and Jasper, 6, as The Bull. Both are piebald doxies and were adopted from a dog rescue and animal shelter.
- “Pawz” Dispenser!
- This is Sakke, a prize-winning pampered 8-year-old American pit bull terrier. She is patiently wearing a Roman soldier outfit. You can’t tell very well from the photo, but the armor is shiny tinfoil.
- White GSD Cheyenne dressed up as one of the Three Musketeers. A pair of children were the other two musketeers of the trio.
- Here is Jonas, a 6-year-old golden retriever dressed as an Oompa Loompa with his owner, Nikki, as Willy Wonka.
- Blizzard the cat is dressed like Lada Gaga.
