Need to buy dog costumes for small dogs? Forget about that tired old “hot dog” outfit this Halloween. Your puppy has no need for such costume cliches. Catch attention with these best new canine outfits:
- Turn heads — and noses — when you dress your pup up like a skunk, a la Pepe Le Pew from the old Looney Tunes cartoons. What’s that smell? (Extra points: You could add a splash of cologne on your dog, or even bring along some stink bombs to set off at random moments.) Li’l Stinker Dog Skunk Halloween costume.
- Puppies are cute. Monkeys are cute. A puppy monkey? Why that’s just cute overload, and it’s our favorite look of the season. This hooded, extra small dog monkey costume comes with oversize ears and curled tail. Bring some bananas. Put a tip jar out. (Or if you have more than one pup, dress them all up in monkey suits, and then place them in a barrel. Voila… barrel of primates = much fun.)
- Arrgggh, matey… You might find yourself walking the plank if you try to put this on your doggie. It’s a pirate costume, and methinks it looks ridiculous. But maybe you can let your pet channel his or her inner Johnny Depp and just go with the flow. Please don’t use an eye patch; your dog will hate it, and it’s kinda cruel.
- Speaking of sea farers, you might find “lobster paws” slightly more to your taste. This is a small Maine lobster dog halloween costume. It has front claws, curly antennas and bug-eyes. All that’s missing is the drawn butter. Yum.
- Perhaps your pet is quite the player, if you know what we mean. We found a hand-crafted Hugh Heffner-style robe that fits small canines. It’s a Playboy costume for dogs! Paisley jacket, tie belt and scarf. If your pup can keep a smoking pipe in his mouth, you’re all set. Even without a pipe, you could dress as a Playmate and bring “Heff” along for the fun. This is super cute.
So those are our top 5 picks this Halloween when you need to buy dog costumes for small dogs.

I think the dog wearing the skunk costume is the best and a chance for a lot of fun this Halloween. If only I could get an unusual odor to put on him that wouldn’t linger too long. Might be worth a shot.
The Playboy outfit is our choice for our dog. He’s a young Doberman and hasn’t grown too big yet. He might even make a better impression that Hugh H. Unfortunately, no bunnies can come.
The monkey dog costume is too much lol … but I think I ll go for the maine lobster costume as we will be organizing a seafood dinner with friends next Halloween :-)
Bob, yes, stink bombs may be the equivalent of toilet-papering someone’s house on Halloween. Best to avoid that. Thanks for the comments, everyone. Keep reading.
The skunk costume is really cute – however, the idea with the stink bombs is quite nasty; this might get you in serious trouble ;-)
