Dog training tips for a pug.

There are countless quick dog training tips for a pug, with many good and other not-so-good sides to them. Choosing which obedience technique will work for your pug is usually a matter of personal preference. When choosing which of the best pug training methods to use, you’ve got to consider your own dog’s specific temperament and intellect.

It is also critical to know which of these techniques you feel most comfortable with. If your puppy senses that you are not comfortable with the training methods, your hard work will go bust. You want to set yourself and your dog up for success from Day 1.

Treat training for a pug. This technique rewards your dog with a pet treat whenever he does something he is commanded to do. This obedience method usually sees results fairly quickly. The negative side, though, is that a dog can get accustomed to obeying the command only when a doggie treat is offered.

Corrections-based pug training. This is the more traditional style of training that uses choke or prong collars. Some canine trainers feel that these teaching styles are cruel and mean.

Dog whisperer for pugs. Based on taking into account the canine behavior and body language of your particular pup. It enables you to communicate with your pug in a way he understands, and sets you up as “the boss.” You have to be firm and assertive with this one.

Clicker training for a pug. A classic form of canine conditioning. A handheld clicker, which is a little plastic box with a clicking metal strip in it, is used along with pet treats. This pug obedience method usually gets very quick and reliable results. The main drawback is that you must have a clicker handy when training with your puppy.

Many handlers use several of the above methods. People will usually use the methods they are most at ease with and that their dog easily understands. If you and your puppy are struggling in an area, it is sometimes helpful to try another way and see if your pooch catches on easier.

It is important to remember that no matter what instruction you choose, the best training for a pug (or any dog, for that matter) takes time and consistency. Investigate and learn about the various methods, and then be open-minded about what will work best for both you and your pug.

  1. Agree clicker training is very effective. However it is not necessary to have the clicker with you at all times just to clicker train your pug or any other dog. You can use a verbal marker like “Yes” if your clicker is no where in sight.
